The U.S. Embassy in Jamaica has imposed drastic restrictions on non-Jamaican nationals from applying for nonimmigrant visas there. Third country nationals ineligible to process visas in Jamaica include those applying for a new visa classification, renewing in the same classification where their visas were not issued at a U.S. consulate in their home country, those who have overstayed or violated status, as well as first–time petition based applicants. B-1/B-2 visitor visa applications are also no longer accepted. The U.S. consular post in Jamaica has been a convenient alternative for many foreign nationals living in the United States due to its geographic proximity. The new restrictions have reduced the pool of eligible third country nationals to only those who are renewing non-visitor visas that were obtained in at consular posts in their home countries and who are applying in the same visa category.
