As of December 20, 2019, certain citizens of Liberia can apply for permanent residence in the United States. This is a victory for Liberians who have been living year to year with Temporary Protected Status, Deferred Departure, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or without status.

The application period is open now and ends on December
20, 2020.

Eligibility requirements are as follows:

  • Continuous physical presence in the United
    states since November 20, 2014
  • Not having been convicted of an aggravated
    felony
  • Not having been convicted of two or more crimes
    of moral turpitude (a category of crimes for immigration purposes that is wider
    than it sounds)
  • Not having persecuted others in Liberia.
  • The spouses and unmarried children of eligible
    Liberian nationals are also eligible to apply.

Eligibility requirements do not include:

  • Proving the applicant is not a public charge
  • Proving the applicant entered the United States
    with inspection
